Argentine Citizenship by Investment: The Ultimate Guide

Argentine Citizenship by Investment: The Ultimate Guide

Updated: 16 December 2025

To contribute to Argentina’s economy and promote job creation, the government has established a citizenship-by-investment program. It announced it in the official gazette “Boletín Oficial de la República Argentina” on 31 July. However, the final regulations on Argentina’s citizenship-by-investment program have not yet been issued. It is estimated to be launched in late 2025 or early 2026. Therefore, we will keep this article updated when the new regulations come into effect.

In the meantime, we will provide you with details on how to obtain Argentine citizenship through investment, its requirements, the application process, and the potential benefits.

What to Discover in This Guide?

The Argentine government first announced the program in May 2025 to attract foreign investment. However, on 31 July 2025, the Argentine government established its citizenship-by-investment program under Decree No. 524/2025. Accordingly, if investors make a “relevant investment”, they can apply for Argentine citizenship.

To make the investment-based citizenship process more transparent, systematic, and secure, the government establishes the Investment Citizenship Programs Agency within the Ministry of Economy. This agency will coordinate with the Foreign Ministry and the National Directorate of Migration.

Accordingly, the agency is tasked with:

  • Receiving and evaluating applications for citizenship through qualifying investments,
  • Establishing detailed procedures and guidelines for the application process,
  • Coordinating with relevant authorities to conduct background and national security checks.

Following the Agency’s report, the National Migration Directorate will take approximately 30 business days to approve or deny the citizenship application.

Key Highlights of the Argentine Citizenship by Investment

Benefits of the Argentina Citizenship by Investment Program

Located in South America, Argentina offers you a safe and stable foundation for your future.

  • Argentine passport holders can have access to 172 countries. These include Japan, the UK, and the Schengen area, providing you with global mobility. Additionally, Argentina has applied for the US Visa Waiver program, which will allow many investors from Argentina to travel freely to the US for up to 90 days within 180 days without a visa.
  • If you become an Argentine citizen, you can benefit from Mercosur Rights, which means you can live, work, or study in Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
  • Dual citizenship is allowed. However, you must also check your home country’s requirements. If your home country does not allow you to get a second citizenship, you might revoke your initial citizenship by getting an Argentine citizenship.
  • Although the program itself does not require a minimum residency requirement to maintain your Argentine citizenship status, you can find a lower cost of living than in European countries or Latin American countries if you prefer to live in Argentina.
  • Once you obtain citizenship, you can also apply for an E-2 visa, a type of investor visa. It can provide you with a route for immigrating to the US to direct and develop a business.
  • For taxation, Argentina does not tax you on foreign income; it taxes only income sourced from Argentina.

Application Process: How to Apply for Argentine Citizenship by Investment

  • Your process will start with you presenting your proposed investment for certification by the CBI Agency.
  • In the next step, you will need to undergo due diligence, including security, financial, and background checks.
  • The next step is up to the National Directorate of Migration, which will issue a decision within 30 business days.
  • You will be granted Argentine citizenship if you get approval from the National Directorate of Migration. Based on this, you can apply for a national ID card and a passport.

Comparison with Other Programs

While the proposed Argentina citizenship-by-investment programme awaits further details, Panama offers a permanent residency program through real estate investment in South America, with its favorable tax regime.

In the meantime, the global migration landscape continues to offer fast-track, reliable Caribbean citizenship-by-investment programmes. The most outstanding options, in this sense, are St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, and St Lucia. Among these, the fastest citizenship route belongs to St Kitts and Nevis citizenship program to get a second passport.
