Portugal has authorised its immigration agency, AIMA, to spend up to €31.35 million on the production, issuance and delivery of residence permits and other official security documents.
Approved by the Council of Ministers on 22 October and published in Portugal’s Official Gazette on 3 November 2026, Resolution No. 213/2026 authorises the expenditure through the first half of 2027.
The resolution also addresses €8.66 million in services delivered between December 2024 and December 2025 for which the corresponding financial execution had not been completed.
Residence Permit Processing in Context
The funding decision comes as Portugal continues managing a substantial volume of immigration applications.
According to AIMA’s 2025 Migration and Asylum Report, the agency issued 527,211 residence permits and renewals in 2025, including 337,880 new permits and 189,331 renewals.
The new authorisation is intended to support the continued production and delivery of residence documents. However, it does not introduce new processing deadlines or guarantee shorter waiting times.
For Portugal Golden Visa applicants and other residence permit holders, the development represents an administrative funding measure rather than a change to immigration eligibility or investment requirements.
